Norwegian delegation holds meeting with DC, visits Postal Bank, appreciates Public Distribution System

Ferozepur, November 16, 2023: A special delegation from Norway led by Anne Beathe Tvinnereim, Minister of International Development, and Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Norway visited Ferozepur today and had a special meeting with the Deputy Commissioner, Rajesh Dhiman.

Welcoming the Norwegian Minister accompanied by a delegation, the Deputy Commissioner apprised them of the history, development, and other activities of the Ferozepur district.

The delegation held a meeting with the DC and the officials of the District Food and Civil Supply Department, the beneficiaries about the Public Distribution System (PDS), and got detailed information about this scheme. DC said, this scheme is proving to be very effective for the poor and through this scheme, 6,10,678 beneficiaries are getting benefits in the district, while 1.44 lakh people in Punjab and about 80 crore people in the country are taking advantage of this scheme. DFSC Raj Rishi Mehra informed about the entire process of smart ration card, distribution of ration to the beneficiaries.

The visiting Minister and delegation praised India’s public distribution system and said that we would talk to the Norway government to implement such a scheme in their country and if necessary, ask the Indian government for assistance to get related support and guidance. After this, the delegation also inspected the postal bank system at the main post office, Ferozepur. Minister said, she is very happy to come to Ferozepur, and impressed by the schemes of the government.

Earlier, the Minister and delegation members visited the SAEL plant to generate electricity from straw and got detailed information about the process of generating electricity from straw. She appreciated the efforts being made by the Government of India and Punjab to prevent pollution by making electricity from straw.
