DRM FZR HOLDING PRESS CONFERENCE

Ferozepur, November 9, 2015:  At present, there is no proposal of shifting of divisional rail office from Ferozepur to Jalandhar, said Anuj Parkash, Divisional Rail Manager today while addressing the press conference called to highlight the achievement of the division on various fronts.

Ferozepur Division which came into being in the year 1862, the Firozepur division of northern railways caters to the rail transport needs of Punjab, Jammu and Kashmir and a part of Himachal Pradesh.

Firozepur division serves a large number of industrial and important towns like Amritsar, Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ludhiana, Firozpur and Kapurthala in Punjab, Kangra, Palampur, Baijnath Paprola and Joginder Nagar in Himachal Pradesh. Jammu Tawi is an another important station under this Division which acts as a gateway to a large number of tourists and pilgrims.  The proposal of bifurcation of Ferozepur Division by creating the Jammu Division has already got the nod.

When pointed out by this correspondent about the publication of news few days back with PTI sources, he said, “I did not said like shifting of Ferozepur Division to Jalandhar and it has been made out of the discussions”.

For not responding to the queries from the media for clarification and not issuing any statement, he admitted that it was deliberately avoided for not dragging the issue further.

DRM highlighted the various achievements in the division to provide better services – safety, punctuality and security –  to its passengers like introduction of new trains, adding extra coaches to generate revenue within the existing infrastructure, providing medical and security to the passengers, display of electronic boards, auto ticket vending machines and RO water vending machines.

He also shared that proposal for change of Ferozepur-Chandigarh train and starting of Bhatinda Shatabi from Ferozepur have already been submitted to the higher authorities.

DRM said that railway have received 40% less complaints as compared to last year which is a sign of providing better services to the passengers.

He however showed concern over the decline in passengers during the last six months from 5.13 crores to 4.67 crores.

The railway is exploring the possibility of asking for funds from MPs from MP LAD Funds and Mr.Jatinder Singh MP has promised Rs.34 lakh while Vijay Sampla has agreed for Rs.19 lakhs, he added.  More MPs of the division are being approached to contribute so that the services to the rail passengers are further improved.
