Mobiles, banned items found in 7 packets tossed in Ferozepur jail
Ferozepur, December 10, 2023: Continuously on the 5th day, mobiles and other banned items were found in the seven packets thrown over the high walls of Central Jail Ferozepur. The total recovery of mobiles during the year has gone 451, besides other banned items, including today’s recovery of two mobiles.
As per the information in the crime report, one mobile touch screen with a SIM Card was found during the search operation carried out on an input from under-trial prisoner Gaurav, already in jail. In the seven packets thrown by unknown, unscrupulous persons inside the jail, from outside, one mobile, one smart watch, 49 packets of tobacco and 2 cigarette boxes were found.
Regular recovery of mobiles and other banned items from inside the jail, clearly speaks of lax security arrangements in and outside the jail which is open from one side and another side touching high-rising residential buildings.
The mobiles were reportedly being used by the jail inmates, to easily access to stay in touch with their nears and dears outside and carry out their legal and illegal activities by passing on the directions to their counterparts. Thus the purpose of keeping the criminals away from the outer world as punishment is lost.
The prisons are known for being safe havens from the criminals and their handlers and this menace has now spread to almost all the jails. Role of some jail officials in facilitating the entry of mobiles and other items for money can’t be ruled out,” sources said.
