Martyrs’ are proud and honour of a nation and community: Lt Gen (Retd) Shergill

Ferozepur, January 9, 2018:  The ‘antim ardas’ and condolence meeting of Martyr Jagsir Singh – who sacrificed his life following unprovoked firing by Pakistani forces on Indian Army posts along the LoC in Nowshera sector of Jammu and Kashmir – was arranged at Gurdawara Sahib Lohgarh Thakran near Ferozepur.

 

On this occasion, the officers, religious political parties leaders, residents of the area were present in good numbers to pay floral tributes to the departed soul.

 

Lt Gen T.S.Shergil, Chief Advisor to Chief Minister, Punjab represented the Chief Minister to pay tributes to martyr Jagsir Singh.

 

Lieutenant General (Retd.) TS Shergill said, “Martyrs are the capital of a nation and community is of martyr Jagsir Singh for his sacrifice”.

He said, though the price of sacrifice of martyrs cannot be paid back but under various financial assistance available, Rs.90 lac will be provided to the martyrs family and wife will be extended pension equal to the full salary, government job, entire expenses on the education of children, full medical expenses for whole of the family besides any other requirement.

 

Capt Amarinder Singh himself had been an army officer and he fully understands the problems of the martyrs family, he added.

 

He further said any demand put forth by the family members of martyr Jagsir Singh for erecting a memorial will be met out.

 

He appealed to all categories of the society to come forward for the help of the martyrs family.  He assured that all formalities for any government assistance in such circumstances would be completed by the government officers by visiting personally the residence of martyrs and they will not have to go to any office.  

 

Among those who paid tributes were Sher Singh Ghubaya, MP, Satkaur Kaur Gehri, MLA, Inderjit Singh Zira, former Minister, Joginder Singh Jindu, former MLA, DP Chandan, BJP leader, Director Sainik Welfare Punjab Brig Jatinder Singh Arora, DSWO and Retd Col Amarnir Singh Chalal.  Apart from this various district officers, political and religious leaders, residents of the area, were present.
