Killer Chinese thread still flying high, one booked on recovery of 300 spools in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, January 27, 2024:  Come Basant and the Chinese thread – a kite flying thread known as the thread of killer, which causes danger, probability of injury or alarm to persons or animals – are available in the market.  Laws are preventing the use of synthetic kite strings, but enforcement is lacking.

During the raid by the police party headed by Rajesh Kumar, ASI, on a tip-off during the routine patrolling near Delhi Gate, in the city, that Sunny Sharma having a Karyana shop near old Post Office Tahli Mohalla, is doing business sale of kites and thread is now waiting for the customers for sale of banned Chinese thread in violation of the instructions of the government and if raided, can be caught red-handed.  In the past years, there have been several incidents, and its continuous usage will harm this year if not checked.

While the infamous Chinese manja, an unbreakable nylon thread, has been banned in many states as it causes a lot of damage to avian species and humans, some shopkeepers are still storing and selling this dangerous product.

Festive celebrations, meant to be joyous, become a death trap for birds because of it, said Diwan Chand Sukhija, President of Streamline Welfare Society. He said, the residents because of serious incidents in the past are worried about the availability of the banned Chinese manja, made of nylon or synthetic material coated with a synthetic substance, is still available for sale despite the National Green Tribunal ban, which becomes a death trap for birds due to their glass coating and ability to conduct electricity.

The police working swiftly on the input raided the shop of Goldy and recovered 300 spools of Chinese thread.  A case under Section 188 of IPC – Disobedience to order duly promulgated by a public servant – was registered against him by releasing him on bail. However, further investigations are on.
