Unemployed Linemen protesting in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, April 18, 2016: The unemployed linemen have again decided to register their protest for getting appointment in Punjab State Power Corporation Ltd (PSPCL) on April 25 at Bathinda along with members of their family.

On the one hand, the Punjab Government is making tall claims of making recruitment of youths while about 4,000 unemployed linemen are struggling for appointment letters since 2010.

Added here, these jobless linemen were recently arrested by the authorities ahead of political rallies that were held at Talwandi Sabo, were released from the judicial custody. They were booked

under Section 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant) of the IPC. They were produced before a local court, which sent them to judicial custody.

In fact, the unemployed linemen had decided to court arrest during political rallies to be held at Talwandi Sabo on April 13, following which the district civil and the police authorities had swooped down on the protestors in an early morning operation and detained around 40 persons.

The Punjab Government on August 27, 2010, had announced that 5,000 linemen would be recruited by the PSPCL and since then the Linemen Union had been claiming for issuing of appointment letters. But after so many years, only 1,000 linemen were issued appointment letters by the government and the remaining linemen had been struggling since years and nothing has been done so far by the management in this regard.

Sardar Kaur, mother of Sukhdev Singh unemployed linemen speaking to the media persons in a choked voice and tears in her eyes said, “Have we committed a blunder for training our son for linemen course”.

She said, On the wee hours on last April 11, my son was lifted by the police in a false case and sent to jail under section 107/151.  She appealed to the government to give employment to her son instead of harassing.
