India’s oldest train Punjab Mail to resume journey from Ferozepur
Ferozepur, December 1, 2020: India’s oldest train service, Punjab Mail, which has been plying for 109 years now, which was halted due to Covid-19, will finally resume its journey on December 1 from Mumbai reaching Ferozepur on December 3.
Added here, the firstly the passengers trains were suspended due to Covid-19 pandemic in the country and later on due relaxation, the services were resumed for only two days and the same has to be suspended in view of rail blockade by the farmers protesting against the controversial three Farm Bills. On pursuing them, the tracks were cleared for plying the both goods and passenger trains in Punjab till December 15. However, the farmers are still protesting against the withdrawal of Bills and meeting between the Centre government and farmers are going on but without any fruitful results. Sources said, in the event of failure of talks, there are possibilities of farmers coming back on the tracks to register their protest.
Sources said that one of the highlights of this trip will also be its new colour with LHS coaches.
On contacting Senior Divisional Operating Manager, Sudhir Kumar confirmed that the Punjab Mail will move today from Mumabi and will reach Ferozepur on December 3. He further said that Punjab Mail will move from Ferozepur on the same day for Mumbai.
Railways sources said,all preparations have also been made to run Punjab Mail from Ferozepur also and reservations have started in this regard. Only those with reserved seats would be allowed to travel. The preparations are also on here to receive the train and for its journey back to Mumbai on the same day.
