Ferozepur, October 22, 2021:  : To check the illegal manufacture and sale of illicit liquor in its crackdown against liquor mafia, the raids are conducted as a part of operations to control it and in a joint raid conducted by excise and police officials, under the supervision of  Gurbaksh Singh, Excise Inspector, Circle Zira, in the enclaves of river Satluj in the surrounds of villages, Ali Ke, Kamalewala, Hazra, Chandi Wala and Habib Ke, 38,000 ltrs of ‘lahan’ and 4800 bottles of illicit liquor recovered and destroyed on the spot being unclaimed and to avoid its misuse.

Added here, It is pertinent to mention that the illicit liquor business, using ‘lahan’ (raw material for making liquor), has been going on in border areas for a long time. a majority of the population settled along the banks of Sutlej River belongs to minority communities and most male members of the village are daily-wagers.  These people have not been getting any lucrative employment offers and hence taking up illicit liquor trade to make both ends meet.

However, 19 tarpaulins, three rubber tube, 12 empty rubber tubes, 10 iron drums, 10 aluminum utensils and 2 working stills, have been taken into custody, said excise official.
