Golden Arrow Division celebrates 55th Raising Day

Ferozepur, July 1, 2017:  The Golden Arrow Division of Indian Army celebrated its 55th Raising Day on 01 Jul 2017.

In line with tradition, Maj Gen Rajesh Kundra,   General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow division, Officers and Troops paid homage to martyrs by laying wreaths at the Barki War Memorial.

Addressing all ranks of the Division during a Special Sainik Sammelan, the GOC appreciated the contribution and hard work put in by all ranks towards maintaining the premier status of the Division.

During the ceremony the GOC awarded the overall Championship and Training Banners to Battalions for their outstanding performance in professional and sports competitions.

The Raising Day celebrations included a scintillating performance by Brigade of the Guards Brass Band and Barakhana with troops, where civil officials and dignitaries of Ferozepur were special invitees.

Sharing the significance of the day, Lt Col Manish Mehta, Defence Spokesperson said, “Raised in 1914 the Division fought in Egypt and Mesopotamia during World War – I. Re-raised in 1940 it participated in World War II in the Burma Campaign and won four Victoria Crosses over the two World Wars for exceptional bravery. The Golden Arrow Division was re-raised post-independence on 01 July 1963 by Maj Gen HK Sibal”.
