Ferozepur May, 21, 2015: The girl students in the schools of the district would be given special training of martial arts and taekwondo to make them self-dependent. This was stated by Er.DPS Kharbanda, Deputy Commissioner while presiding over a meeting on ensuring security on women, especially girls of Plus ! and Plus 2 classes besides the women staff.

The meeting was attended by all heads of the government senior secondary schools of this border district when Jagsir Singh, District Education Officer (Secondary) and other officials were also present at the meeting.

Er.Kharbanda asked the school heads in the district to chalk out training programmes on Takewando and Martial Arts, in coordination with the Takewando Association for the security of the girl students.

He said, the girls in the schools should be educated for self defence through Taekwando and Martial Arts so that they could use them for self defence while going to the school or out of station.

He said, to further infuse a sense of security among girls and make the self-dependent, all government school girls would also be provided with ‘pepper spray’ free of cost to protect themselves from eve-teasers.

Meanwhile the school heads were also instructed to put up flex boards outside the schools showing the number of nearest police station for the convenience while making complaint in the need of the hour.

He also directed the school heads to discuss and sort out the problems being faced by the students by arranging monthly meetings of students, village sarpanch and parents. He also advised them to install CCTV cameras outside the main gate of the schools, if possible.

Present among others on this occasion were, Pradeep Deora, DEO, Ashok Behal, Secretary Red Cross, Sunil Shjarma, DSO, Pargat Singh, Dy.DEO(Elem.Edu.), Ashok Sharma, Convener, Taekwando Association and school heads.
