Ferozepur to host “Khelo India-National Programme for Dev. of Sports” dedicated to 50th Anniversary of Punjabi Suba
Ferozepur, October 14, 2016: Year 2016 is going to be the year of Punjabi pride & resurgence as Punjab gets ready to celebrate its 50th anniversary of the Punjabi Suba and Sports Department in Ferozepur will organize district level competitions – boys and girls – under 14 and 17 on October 20-21 at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Stadium, Ferozepur under Khelo India-National Programme for Development of Sports of Government of India, Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. This information was given by Sunil Sharma, District Sports Officer.
The youth represent the most dynamic and vibrant segment of the population and India is one of the youngest nations in the world, with about 65 per cent of its population being under 35 years of age. The youth in the age group of 15-29 years comprise 27.5 percent of the population. Currently, there is dearth of supporting infrastructure, absence of encouragement to young people to participate in sports, and lack of organized system of talent search.
Sunil Sharma informed that the competition events include athletics, boxing, hockey, kabaddi and wrestling under 14 and 17 both for boys and girls.
He further said that the cut-out date for the age for Under-17 is 31.12.2016 and in other words, he/she must be born after January 1, 2000 and for Under-17 after January 1, 2003.
Those interested to participate in any of the event, must report at 9 am and bring along with them an attested copy from the Principal of the school as a token of proof of age besides a copy of bank account.
