Locals submits memo to DC for PGI Satellite Centre

 

Ferozepur, February 8, 2016:  The ambitious project of a PGI satellite centre in Ferozepur that was sanctioned in 2013 during the fag end of the UPA-II regime is yet to see the light of day.

 

Slowed down in procedural wrangles, the non-implementation of the project has invited public wrath.

 

These views were expressed by the local citizens and Congress workers while presenting a memorandum to the government through the Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.

 

There is anxiety among people over the PGI satellite centre project in Ferozepur,

 

Giving this information, Ram Avtar, Satnam Singh, Parminder Handa and other said, there is no hospital for major treatment by the people of border towns and they have to rush to far off places to Ludhiana, Amritsar, Jalanadhar, Patiala and Chandigarh.

 

They further said, it is very unfortunate that in certain cases, the patient succumb to injuries on the way because of long distances.

 

 

The locals supported by the Congress workers said, it is four years back when the  during the fag end of the UPA-II regime in 2013, but is yet to see light of day and survey was also conducted for selecting the land belonging to ITI.    Even the Chief Minister during his visit in 2013 had assured for early start of construction work on this project.

 

They further said, with the opening of PGI Satellite centre in Ferozepur, the people from the adjoining areas – Jalalabad, Fazilka, Abohar, Zira, Guruharsahai, Moga will not have to move for major treatments at far off places. Besides, this project will also extend employment opportunities to the unemployed.

 

Added here that the delay in starting of the project is termed as deliberations on the part of SAD-BJP government for delay in providing the land whereas the land for the AIIMS project in Bhatinda was finalised within a few days of its announcement.

 

Sources said the entire cost of Rs 200 crore for the project had to be borne by the Union Government but the land for the same had to be provided by the state, which had been delayed.  While the proposed satellite centre, including a 100-bed hospital, is to be linked to the PGIMER, Chandigarh, for referral, training and consultation purposes.

 

Present among others on this occasion were Lavkesh Bhandari, Baboo Pardhan, Tarlok Pilot, Parveen Kumar, Ajay Bhatti, Judge Bhatti, Veeru, Vijay Gill, Jagtar Sikngh, Nirbbay Singh and others.
