Ferozepur, May 24, 2022:  Taking cognizance of the death of a six-year-old child after he fell into a 100 feet deep borewell at a village in Hoshiarpur district while playing in a field, Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur, Amrit Singh, exercising its powers under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1973(2 of 1972) has issued orders for immediate closure of all open borewells in district Ferozepur.

DC said it has come to her notice that in the fields where there are old borewells for irrigation of water when the motors are taken out of them, those borewells are usually left open which has resulted in various inconveniences.  Any untoward incident can happen over these unused open borewells.  Such borewells should be immediately closed, adding she said these orders will remain in force till July 22, 2022.

While issuing a stern warning that action as per law would be initiated against the respective landowner if it was found that an unused borewell was yet to be closed on their land posing a serious safety hazard, the Ferozepur district administration has asked the landowners to take urgent steps to close them.

The district administration has also asked the public to convey information about unused borewells and dry open wells to the nearest BDPO or Tehsildar for taking further action.
