Ferozepur, March 27, 2023:  In a crackdown on illicit liquor trading, the Ferozepur police have booked five persons with recovery of lahan and illicit liquor and working stills in Ferozepur border village Ali Ke.

The consumption of illicit liquor, especially in rural belts, is wreaking havoc in society and its production continues unabated especially in the border villages. Police officials also claimed that they had nabbed a number of persons involved in illegal production and sale of liquor but the fact is that it is still going on as evident from the repeated seizures and arrest of bottleggers.

Divulging with details, Randhir Kumar, SP(D) informed that working on the tip off, by the police party during patrolling in village Dulchi ke area about the extraction of illegal liquor in village Ali Ke by certain people, on the banks of Sutlej river and can be apprehended, if raided just now.  However, during the raid, the alleged accused fled away from the scene leaving behind the 1000 bottles of illicit liquor bottles and 1800 ltr lahan besides three working stills.

The police party raided on a tip-off at the spotted place but the accused managed to escape before the arrival of the police. However, the police identified the accused and booked them.

Meanwhile, a case under Sections 61/114 of Excise Act has been registered against five persons – Dipi, Gurnam Singh alias Doli, Ashok Kumar, Uma and Dharma at Sadar Police station with appointment of Balwinder Singh, IO.  Further investigations are on and hunt is also on to nab the accused.

During the year 2023, in 23 cases registered, 33 accused were arrested with recovery of 1184 ltr 220 ml illicit liquor and 3140 g lahan besides 3 working stills, added SP.

SP said, the campaign against drugs, against mischievous elements involved in the illicit liquor trade, would be intensified and  strict legal action would be taken against those involved in the illegal liquor business.
