Covid-19 Impact: No Ram Leela in Ferozepur this year amid coronavirus pandemic

Ferozepur, October 6, 2020: In light of the Covid-19 outbreak, there will be no Ram Leela in Ferozepur this year. Earlier, the staging of Ram Leela was affected during the period of terrorism in the year 1984 and now after 36 years, Corona has repeated that history.

The global epidemic Caronavirus has a profound impact not only on the country’s economic system, trade, traffic and education but also on life as well as religious customs. Because of this reason, the Ram Leela will not be staged this year in Ferozepur due to the outbreak of Corona this year.

During to corona, in Ferozepur against 44,071 samples taken since the outbreak of coronavirus, 39,789 were reported as negative, 3,879 positive with 106 deaths and 492 active cases while results of 403 are still awaited.

Ram Leela was used to be staged at various places with religious customs by around 35 Ram Leela Committees in the district.  Since there are no guidelines on this issue, so far no permission has been sought as no one ready to take the risk of community transmission of coronavirus.

Advocate Prithvi Puggal, president of the Sri Rama Krishna Dramatic Club, who has been staging Ramlila for the past 62 years in the Gokhale Hall near Bansi Gate of the city, said that in view of the health of the people and the latest circumstances of the corona epidemic, the club executive decided not to stage Ramlila year.

He said that it seems very strange that the artists associated with his club for the last 62 years are connecting people with religion by staging Ramlila but the circumstances are such that no kind of risk can be taken. He said to the Lord that the conditions are good soon, the crisis of Corona epidemic is overcome and people remain healthy.

Vijay Monga Siyaram Dramatic Club and Dushera Committee organizing the screen show for the last 23 years in housing board colony said, we too have decided not to screen this time and wish the speedy recovery from this chronic virus with hope to enjoy in the next year.

At the same time, when talking about the staging of Ramlila, ADC General Rajdeep Kaur had said that so far no file from any Ramlila committee has come to him for approval of staging Ramlila besides no guidelines have been issued by the government so far on this account.
