Ferozepur, July 29, 2015: The Punjab and Haryana High Court, cracking a whip on school uses for flouting safety norms, have taken a tough stand against the school managements with a warning that it cannot absolve themselves of their responsibility that the vans do not belong to them, which takes innocent lives in the accidents of school vans used to ferry the children between the homes and schools.

Giving this information, Charandeep Singh, District Transport Officer said, the school managements normally write that the vehicle is not registered in the name of school and commuting of children is arranged at their own level. Now it is made clear to the school managements that it will be their responsibility even if the van carrying the school children is registered in the name of school or not.

He said, the Punjab Government has issued new guidelines to all the managements of the educational institutions that keeping in view the safety of the children, a campaign has been started to inform the school managements in writing to implement the new safe school van policy.

DTO further said, it will now be the responsibility of school managements for getting the vehicle permit to carry the school children and in case the new instructions are not implemented, the transport department will take a strict action to the extent of impounding the vehicles in the police stations, for any violation of norms in plying the school vans.
