In single day, 11 Shramik Special trains moved from Punjab with 15,000 migrant workers

Ferozepur, May 13, 2020:  In a single day, the Railways in Ferozepur division moved another 11 Shramik Express trains on Wednesday ferrying around 15,000 migrant workers to various states.

So far, since the lockdown after taking a decision by the state governments to allow the movement of migrant workers, as on date, 74 trains have moved from the Ferozepur Division carrying as many as 90,000 migrant workers.

Today, the first train for South India moved from Jalandhar for Vijawada.  In total, 74 trains have moved – 31 from Jalandhar, 36 from Ludhiana, 7 from Amritsar for UP, Bihar, MP, Chattisgarh, Andhara Pradesh and Jharkhand.

DRM Rajesh Aggarwal said, in this hour of crisis, railways priority is to ensure the movement of goods trains to continue the uninterrupted supply of essential commodities to the deficit states, as per the indents of the state governments and shifting of migrant workers from Punjab to their home districts.

We had been taking all precautionary measures as per the medical protocol under Covid-19 to avoid further spread of coronavirus.  All passengers were subject to registration online and screening by the health officials before boarding the train, said DRM.

DRM also announced an honorarium of Rs.5,000 to each team in Jalandhar and Ludhiana, for the successful running of special trains.
