Central Jail Ferozepur once again comes under scanner
Ferozepur, January 10, 2017: Security arrangements at the Ferozepur Central Jail have once again come under scanner following the recovery of a mobile phone from a prisoner.
Added here, a few days back, the Central Jail was also in the headlines with the arrest of one person for throwing a material on the back wall of the jail.
Earlier also, during search operations such incidents of recovery of mobile, SIMs have been noticed. The jail is situated in a thickly populated area now surrounded by residential colony and PUDA colony under development. Sometime back, it was decided to shift the jail to nearby village Khai Pheme Ki but the shifting plan could not be materialized and jail authorities were provided with funds for its renovation.
A checking was carried out by Asstt. Jail Supdt of the inmates admitted in the hospital during which 56 tablets of drugs and mobile phone was recovered from the custody of Parvinder Singh under trial.
On the statement of Harbhajan Lal, Asstt. Supdt, a case was registered at City Police Station against the prisoner and an employee of Pesco – a security aency under NDPS Act, said Baldev Singh Asstt. Supdt.
Sources said cell-phones help criminals in threatening witnesses, besides planning escape from the jail. Sometimes, the prisoners also extort money while staying in the jail, they added.
A source inside the Central Jail said in many cases, relatives of prisoners provide mobile phones to the inmates during their hearing in the court.
Similarly, narcotic substances and other communication devices reach jails hidden in the supplies to the jail.
The inmate informed the mobile and drugs have been taken from another prisoner under trial Shamsher Singh son of Joginder Singhwho was given to him by Jugraj Singh No.134 an employee of Pesco a security agency.
Baldev Singh IO investigating into the matter told that after registration of a case under NDPS and Prisons Act 1894, the investigation is still on.
