BSF seizes 4 kg heroin in Abohar SectorFerozepur, January 9, 2020: On 09 Jan 2020 alert Border Security Force troops seized 8 packets of contraband (Weight Approx- 4 kgs) suspected to be heroin in the area of responsibility of Abohar Sector.

However, there had been a decline in the seizure of heroin along the Indo-Pakistan border in the last couple of years and the beg off in seizure of heroin to better security measures and enhanced coordination of information amid various security and intelligence agencies.

On 09 Jan 2020 during night hours, on-duty BSF troops heard some suspicious sound and got alerted. Therefore, troops noticed a movement of some suspects ahead of Border Security Fence. To stop the misadventure of Pak smugglers/ANEs Border Security Force troops challenged the suspects and opened fire in self-defence but the suspected smugglers managed to escape taking advantage of dense fog and undulating ground. Later, during search 08 packets of contraband suspected to be heroin (Total weight approx. 4 Kgs) were recovered from the spot.

Vigilant troops of Border Security Force once again thwarted the attempt of Anti-National Elements to push the consignment of contraband items into India.

During the year 2020, BSF has effected under mentioned seizures on Punjab Border. During the year 2019, BSF has effected under mentioned seizures on Punjab Border Heroin : 04 Kgs Heroin : 227.556 Kgs Opium : 1.139 Kgs Indian border crosser apprehended : 83 Nos Indian smugglers apprehended : 11 Nos Weapons (Different Types) : 12 Nos Ammunition (Various Calibers) : 468 Rds Indian SIM Cards : 20 Nos PAK SIM Cards : 21 Nos Indian Mobile Phone : 19 Nos.

However, there had been a decline in the seizure of heroin along the Indo-Pakistan border in the last couple of years.  During the current year 227.55 kg which is the lowest in the five years. In 2014, the BSF had recovered 361.41 kg heroin, besides seizing a lot of weapons and ammunition with over 100 Pakistani SIMs and mobiles.  This was followed by the recovery of 344.30 kg of heroin in 2015, 230.56 kg in 2016 and 278.14  kg in 2017.  The seizure went down in 2018 to 221.30 kg and the trend continued this year too.
