Army celebrates 3rd International Yoga Day on longest summer solstice
Ferozepur, June 21, 2017: Physical fitness is at the core of the Army ethos and easily assimilates yoga as one of the best practices for wholesome physical fitness.
The third “International Yoga Day” also known as “World Yoga Day” was celebrated at Ferozepur Cantt on 21 June 2017 under the aegis of Golden Arrow Division. This mass Yoga event was attended by more than 5,000 Army personnel, families and children at three different locations thereby augmenting the national effort to patronize our cultural heritage. Major General Rajesh Kundra, Sena Medal, General Officer Commanding, Golden Arrow Division emphasises everyone to assimilate & spread awareness about benefits of Yoga.
The Ferozepur Cantonment Board also organized yoga events for ex-servicemen, civilians and families within the cantonment. Approx 1325 NCC cadets participated in five different events organized by 13 PUNJAB NCC Battalion.
On this longest day of the Summer solstice, 18 different Asanas were performed by the participants over one hour duration. Trained yoga instructors guided the gathering through these Yogasanas while explaining their benefits for good health.
Lt Col Manish Mehta, Defence Spokesperson, PRO from Jalandhar said, the gathering appreciated the initiative taken by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi & Government of India in declaring 21 Jun as International Yoga Day & making the world realize the importance of Yoga and the need for strengthening Indian cultural ownership of Yoga. The event re-energized the environment to practice yoga in our everyday life.
