Farmers Rail Roko protest continues at Shambu station, disrupts 151 trains
Ferozepur, April 29, 2024: As many as, 151 trains were disrupted on the 10th day – 46 trains cancelled, 101 diverted and two each short terminated and short originated, by the railways, as the farmers continued with their rail rook programme at the Shambhu border, demanding the release of three farmer activists who were arrested by Haryana police and guarantee for MSP besides the MSP legal guarantee and debt waiver.
Today, the females along with the farmers were seen sitting at the Shambu station on account of Guru Teg Bahadur Ji Parkash Parv, as a part of a protest for the release of innocent young farmers.
On the one hand, the Lok Sabha elections are going on, while on the other hand, for the last ten days, the trains have been cancelled. The protest has started having an impact on the Hosiery and Hotel Industry and in case there is no solution to the protest by the farmers, the industry has to face huge losses.
The protest has caused a huge loss to the railways by way of refund to the passengers and in further bookings given on-going protest. Due to the agitation, the routes of various trains were diverted. Notably, Shambhu is the gateway to Punjab from the national capital via Haryana.
The Ambala rail division has to reschedule the trains daily as the farmers, under the banner of the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) and Kisan Mazdoor Morcha (KMM), have squatted on rail tracks at the Shambhu railway station near the Punjab and Haryana border, demanding the release of three farmers who had been arrested by the Haryana Police.
