Ferozepur, July 8, 2024:  There is a surge of drugs in the border district Ferozepur, with the recovery of heroin, opium, and poppy husk in the past, even dropping by drones, with the arrest of 7 accused including one woman.

On the night of July 7, the BSF Intelligence Wing received information regarding a consignment discovered in a farming field in the border area of Ferozepur district. Before BSF troops could reach the spot, the consignment was retrieved by two individuals driving a tractor. BSF troops intercepted them as they were returning to their village, near Bhanewala village, Ferozepur district, at approximately 11:30 pm. The individuals, aged approximately 27 and 50 years and residents of Chandiwala village, Ferozepur district, were questioned, frisked and their tractors thoroughly searched. During the search, troops uncovered two packets (totalling 1.00 Kg in weight) of suspected narcotics concealed in the hood pocket of the tractor, along with 3 mobile phones. Subsequently, the apprehended persons, tractor and suspected narcotics were handed over to the police for further investigation.

In another recovery of 3.769 kg opium and the car used in this illegal business, from two accused, identified as Rajinder Singh alias Raja of village Dango Rumana in Faridkot and Balwinder Singh alias Babba of village Lande in Moga district,  by the Counter Intelligence team.

Under the campaign against drugs, another 989 gm heroin and Rs.7 lac drug money were recovered from Zira with the arrest of three accused Harpal Singh of Sultanwind in Amritsar, Kuldeep Singh alias Saba of Kot Ise Khan in Moga and Paramjit Kaur of Zira.   The police have received another lead in this recovery and are expected another crack in smuggling of heroin from across the border.

However, with all these recoveries, the BSF, Counter Intelligence and Punjab police have conducted successful operations with a commitment to combating narcotics trafficking and ensuring a drug-free Punjab.
