Zira Stir: Sanjha Morcha gives call for two days ‘protest’ by hoisting ‘black flags’ on Jan 3 & 4

Ferozepur, January 2, 2022:  Finding no solution to the on-going protest at Mansurwal village in Zira block of Ferozepur against the Malbros International Private Limited – ethanol plant – polluting the underground water and environment of the area, Sanjha Morcha has given a call to intensify the agitation, starting with two days protest on January 3 and 4 against the liquor mafia and the government coalition that is poisoning the water by hoisting black flags atop the houses to support the agitation.

In a message over popular tweet Tractor2Twitter, it is written, “Remember, the government is not pro-liquor mafia, the liquor mafia is the government.

Kisan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee which has also given a call for protest on Jan 3 and 4 for closure of the toll plazas and to punish the factory owners by taking  strict action for polluting the environment.

Gurmail Singh, Sarpanch in his message has said, we will register our protest by burning the effigies of the state government during the protest from Jan 3 onwards. A big gathering of various farm unions will also be held on January 6, to pay rich tributes to the departed soul – who fell prey to the discharge of the factory –  on the occasion of bhog ceremony of Rajvir Singh (37) who died few days back allegedly due to pollution generated by the Mansurwala factory.

It is pertinent to mention that Rajvir, few days back had appeared on the social media before his death accusing the factory owners for creating pollution and his health has been deteriorating.  Later on his death, allegedly due to pollution from the liquor factory, the protesters had demanded registration of a case against the factory management, considering the statement as a dying declaration.

Roman Brar, Gurjant Singh, Pritam Singh Mahianwala, Fateh Singh, Gursewak Singh, Gurmail Singh, leading members of the Sanjha Morcha claimed that the Punjab government led by Bhagwant Mann is working pro-liquor factory and taking no action against the factory.

On the other hand, the NGT – National Green Tribunal had given a clean chit to the liquor factory owners.  The committees were formed after a meeting of Sanjha Morcha members with the Chief Minister to investigate charges of pollution by the liquor factory in around 44 villages of the area. The district administration claimed to have completed the inspection, collection of samples from various places and the report will be submitted to the government and court by January 10.   However, the next date of hearing in this case is fixed for February 28.

It is also added that the Punjab government has already deposited Rs.20 crore fine as per the court orders to compensate the loss to the factory due to closure since July 24 of last year.

AAP Rajya Sabha Nominee, Raghav Chadha, in one of the videos on social media shared by Sanjah Morcha had condemned the protesters sitting on dharna without any scientific dharna.  He said, they should prove it scientifically to solve the issue.  In case the factories start closing in Punjab, the investors will be reluctant to invest in Punjab in future and it will be an ultimate loss to the state.  The Punjab government has already been fined Rs.20 crore which is a burden on the taxpayers as the government doesn’t have any currency printing machine.  When the High Court has given a clean chit to the factory, the action is being taken on the directions of the Court. Hence, I appeal to the unwanted protesters to restrain from agitations.
