Youth dies due to drug overdose in Ferozepur

Ferozepur, August 4, 2019:  In Punjab, deaths due to drugs is a continued process and recently one 25-year-old youth identified as Gurmuk Singh of Basti Amritsaria in village Sabuana have died due to overdose of drugs.

On getting the information, the police have recovered syringe from the pocket of the victim, motor cycle, mobile phone and match box from the spot, where he was reportedly lying dead on the link road Palla Megha to Mallanwala.  However, the availability of syringe speak that the victim was an injecting drug user.

The police sources said, the investigations are on the death of youth and to nab the drug peddlers in this area.

The residents of the area have blamed the government for rampant use of drugs by the youths. One of the villager said, there are number of types of drugs available and even drugs are available from the chemist shops.  No doubt with the extra vigil of the police administration, there had been a check on the supplies but it is easily available again to the youths.

 Even one mother admitted that his son too is addicted and I have arranged for his treatment number of times and he is out of this menace.  She however said in a chocked voice that the police are aware of the persons doing the drug business in the area and need to put a strong hand on them, to curb the use of drugs.

On the other hand, the civil administration has already taken the remedial measures by organizing the seminars, camps and to create awareness among the students by the Deputy Commissioner by interacting with the students in the morning assembly in the various schools of the district.

The police administration has also sought cooperation from the people  to inform them about the drug peddlers to crack the supplies and put them behind the bars.
