Ferozepur, January 20, 2016: It could be seen a bit overwhelming when you meet a deaf and dumb couple.  But the members of the Women Cell dealing with marital dispute cases were happy to settle the case of a deaf and dumb couple referred to them.

Women Counseling Cell working in the campus of Community Policing Resource Centre(CPRC) is doing a yeoman’s job in settling the marital dispute cases.

In fact, a language that uses a system of manual, facial and other body movements as the means of communication especially among deaf people.

Keeping this in mind, on Wednesday, the members of the Women Counseling Cell despite being non-expert in the language of gesture of deaf and dumb – were happy in rehabilitation of deaf and dump couple – Rekha wife of Patras of village Jaimalwala in Ferozepur blessed with beautiful baby-boy – after counseling through gestures on faces and actions of the hands.

The parents of both informed that both had a dispute over minor issues and Rekha had gone to her parents a month back.  On their failing to settle the issue with the help of local persons, they preferred to approach the Women Cell –being the third party for counseling.

While Patras does a labour work, Rekha is a house wife.

One of the Counseling Member also offered a small financial help to the couple to take care of their 4 months child.

Added here that the Women Cell is working in the district for the last 15 years, with the help of local dedicated members in three panels.  The compromise success rate of the panel is 80 per cent and in the rest of the cases, either the complainant don’t respond or they move to the court for relief.

Talking about the nature of cases and priority of dispute, Harish Monga, one of the oldest member of the panel said, the nature of disputes in order is ego, misunderstanding, interference of parents of both sides, extra marital relations, addict, property dispute and down at the tail.

He said, during his 15 years counseling, non even a single case of dowry has been recommended for action despite alleged in the complaints but during counseling it was admitted as a tool for putting a pressure on the parents of husband’s for settlement under threat and nothing else.

The people are not aware even in the rural areas about the counseling services available in the Women Cell in police department but still they prefer to lodge a complaint on 181 Help Line on phone which gets priority in dealing with the case.

Amardeep Singh Sandhu, Inspector, Incharge Women Cell and Prem Singh Hav were also present during the counseling proceedings.
