Visually impaired selected in 2019, awaits appointment letter

Ferozepur, October 31, 2022:   Visually impaired Brij Mohan, an inmate of Home for the Blind, despite his selection in Local Bodies Department as Safai worker in Group-D category in 2019, is moving from pillar to post and waiting for the issue of formal appointment letter to join the government service.

Brij Mohan informed that he was selected in the Group C and Group D category 332 posts as per the public notice issued on May 31, 2019. I completed all the formalities and documentation, and was selected in 2021 and my name appeared in the merit list. But my appointment letter has not been issued. There are three more visually impaired Miss Renu Bala of Kapurthala, Rajiv Kumar of Jalandhar and Sandeep Sharma of Amritsar.

Brij Mohan said, I have personally gone to Chandigarh and also met the concerned minister and officers but so far there had been only assurances.

He said, the last objection was raised of domicile certificate, which too was submitted of Ferozepur (Punjab) issued by the Tehsildar but the same has not been entertained because the same has been issued on the basis of acquiring education while staying at Home for the Blind at Ferozepur since 2008. He also cleared that the first condition of the domicile is that the incumbent must be a resident of at least for the last three years, which in my case is Ferozepur (Punjab).

He has also even approached the local MLA and Progressive Federation for the Blinds in this regard. Making an appeal to the Chief Minister Punjab to kindly intervene in the matter, taking my cases as a test case for inordinate delay in issuance of appointment letters to join the government service, to stand on my own feet and live a comfortable life.

Anil Gupta, Secretary, Progressive Federation for Blind said it is very unfortunate appointment letter to Brij Mohan inmate has not been issued so far. He appealed to the government to give priority to redress the issue of specially disabled persons.
