Villagers oppose move to close Sewa Kendras
Ferozepur, June 14, 2018: The residents of Machhiwara village in Ferozepur today opposed the shutting down of Sewa Kendara providing various services to the number of adjoining villages under one roof.
With the shutdown of the Sewa Kendras which are not financially viable, by the present Congress government, opened around 2400 in the state, to provide various services under one roof, in the heart of the city or village, during the tenure of previous SAD-BJP government, as many as 3500 workers in Punjab would be affected.
The villagers – Chamkaur Singh, Gurcharan Singh, Balwinder Singh Jhanjia, Balkar Singh Baba, Balwinder Singh Fouji and others led by Balbir Singh, Sarpanch, Machhibugra today protested the closure of Sewa Kendra in the village on the visit of a team from Chandigarh.
Sarpanh informed that the people of adjoining villages – Jawahar Singh Wala, Kalia Wala, Jhanjia, Sulhani, Bjulu Wala, Patli etc. were getting the benefit of this Sewa Kendra with regard to a birth certificate, caste certificate, electricity bill payment, old age pension, handicap pension, resident certificate etc. With the closure of this centre, they will become a baby of private persons, he added.
He further said, they will not allow the closure of Sewa Kendra at any cost but despite protest, the Sewa Kendra was locked by the visiting team as per the government orders and take away the infrastructure.
Later on, a deputation of villagers submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner.
When Aman Goyal, an official from Chandigarh to shut down the Sewa Kendra, was contacted, he said, the contract with the different companies during the tenure of SAD-BJP government is maturing. However, the new government with more reforms will restart the Kendras. Financial viability was, however, ruled out, as is being projected by the government.
