MOGA, November 17-

Deputy Commissioner Moga Sandeep Hans on Sunday paid floral tributes to freedom fighter Lala Lajpat Rai on his 91st ‘Balidan Diwas’ at his Samarak in Dhudike village here.

Lala Lajpat Rai, popularly known as Punjab Kesari, was born on January 28, 1865, at Dhudike. Chiefly remembered as a leader in the Independence movement, he sustained serious injuries in the lathi-charge by the police when leading a non-violent protest against the Simon Commission and died after less than three weeks of the incident on November 17, 1928.

“The nation was indebted to him for his role in the freedom movement and nobody can forget his sacrifice for the freedom of the country. We should keep observing anniversaries of the freedom fighters that our future generations should realise that it took sacrifices for the freedom of the country,” Deputy Commissioner said.

Congress leader and former minister Dr Malti Thapar, Nihal Singh Wala MLA Manjit Singh Bilaspur and Jagraon MLA Sarabjit Kaur Manuke also paid homage to the Martyr. Members of the Lala Lajpat Rai Birthplace Committee, the family members of local freedom fighters, the village panchayat and many other local politicians paid floral tributes to the freedom fighter.

On the occasion, General Secretary Lala Lajpat Rai Birthplace Committee Ranjit Singh Dhanna, President Jagjit Singh Rana, Secretary Raj Jung Singh, Kewal Singh Gill, Mohan Lal Garg, Numberdar Iqbal Singh, Dr Pawan Thapar, Sarpanch Jasvir Singh, Sarabjit Singh, Jagtar Singh Dhaliwal and Satwant Singh among others were present.
