Thriving VIP Culture: Red Number plate replaces Red Beacon
Ferozepur, December 19, 2017: With the ban of Red Beacon culture in the state by Capt Amarinder government and later on taking a U-Turn on his decision to remove red beacons from official vehicles of Ministers, it looks that this VIP – very important person -culture is flourishing and get replaced by Red Number plates when ‘red color’ number plates are seen being used by the various officers, against the official norm for private and commercial vehicles, even on certain private vehicles, to give a VIP look.
The government has to revoke the earlier orders following criticism on social media when the Twitter was abuzz with criticism on the order with trolls saying ‘Bagawat ho gayee shuru", "the muffler effect vanished" "Punjab Government makes U-turn".
A car with red number plates is seen moving on the roads, which shows that self-centred feeling still exists. One such car of an officer was seen parked in the DAC complex with the red number plate.
Added here, the beacon of knowledge is still needed and not the beacon light atop the official or personal vehicle as despite putting an end to Very Important Person – VIP – culture, by banning the use of red beacon – a symbol and status of authority, the feeling is still there when the red beacon atop the vehicle has changed to red color number plates – a violation of the instructions for the particular style number plate.
Our politicians, instead of being totally focused on discussing the issues of unemployment, terrorism, inflation and other topics of national importance, their professional conduct in parliament was more driven by their demand to have a red beacon light on top of their vehicles.
The red beacon flashers should only be used by the limited VIPs otherwise its sanctity is lost if it is used by every VOPs (Very Ordinary Persons). Rather it's using should be confined to the ambulance and school bus, said the local NGO.
