Stubble Burning : Administration goes tough with challan of 15 farmers in Ferozepur District

 

Ferozepur (   April 27, 2017               ) The district administration has gone tough with the challan of as many as 14 farmers of the district  for stubble burning despite the strict orders of National Green Tribunal – NGT  and ordered the concerned SDMs and officials of revenue departments to take immediate action against the farmers who put the residue of crops on fire, said Ramvir IAS Deputy Commissioner, Ferozepur.

With the stubble burning, which is a legal crime, the environment is polluted besides damage of soil quality and inviting various diseases like cancer, eye diseases, skin diseases asthma and many other terrible diseases with the emission of poisonous gases, said DC.

 Apart from this,  stubble burning also adds to global warming   which minimize the chances of rains whereas the land can also irrigated with the help of straw management system, he added.

Deputy Commissioner said, the decision of NGT can be implemented  only through awareness  of farmers with the help of pollution control board, agriculture department, Panchayats, media etc. He said, we are sending the mobile vans to  the villages to make the farmers conscious about the ill-effects of stubble burning so that the decision of tribunal should be imposed strictly.

DC further told that as per the directions of  NGT, the small land owners having less than two acres of land will have to pay Rs. 2500/-, medium land owners holding two acres and less than 5 acres land will have to pay Rs. 5000/- and those owning over five acres will have to pay Rs. 15000 per incident of crop burning towards environment compensation. 

He however, asked the SDMs and pollution control board to send the legal notice to those farmers who violate the instructions in this regard.

Present among others were Ms. Shruti Sharma, ADC S.Harjit Singh SDM Ferozepur, S. Paramdeep Singh SDM Guruharshahi, Sh.Vineet Kumar SDM Zira, officials of various departments were also present.
