Ferozepur, December 18, 2015:  A seminar on drug de-addiction at the Rehabilitation Centre (Baghbaan) set up by the State Government near Home for the Blind in the city was held today by Red Cross Society in collaboration with the Health Department.

The Punjab Government is making all-out efforts to get free the drug-addicts from this menace and all should contribute to overcome this chronic disease, said Kamal Sharma, President Punjab BJP.  Dr.JPS Bhatia from Amritsar was especially present on this occasion.

Kamal Sharma said, the efforts by the government to eradicate the drug menace from the state is a continued process and positive resulting are coming out of the various schemes planned against the drugs.

He said, admitting the mistake now a days is a great and difficult job.  Drug addiction is a very deep rooted problem and each one in the society has to understand its responsibility.

Er.DPS Kharbanda, Dc Ferozepur appealed to the addicts not to hesitate to join the camps to come out of social menace and resettle in life by getting the skill trainings.

SSP H.S.Mann speaking on the issue said, number of drug addicts is not that important but its impact on society is more imperative. The people should cooperate with the police to plug the drug supplies.

Dr.Rachna incharge of the centre said, because of social stigma, the addicts are reluctant to join the rehab centres.  The family members has to come forward to admit their wards in these centres for treatment.

Dr.Bhatia from Amritsar, the key note speaker said, we are on the recovery process but the treatment takes its time.  We should not enter into stats but work with dedication and devotion over the drug addicts.

Taking about the drug-addicts, to whom he calls them as his students, the reasons behind not joining the private centres is that they don’t  have good reputation.           We should extend incentives in the form of facilities than punishing the addicts, Bhatia said.

He proposed that petty criminals should be asked to join the rehab centers to avoid them to the black days.

Namarata wife of the drug addict, sharing her personal experience said, drug addiction is a disease which converts the man into animal. Detoxed the patient is not the solution but his rehabilitation is and we should try to differentiate between the disease and habit before starting the treatment.  Only the time, patience and surrender can only bring the addict to normal life.

It may be added here Despite the fact that the government was providing highly subsidized facilities and private centres were charging heft fees, the drug addict are reluctant to get them admitted in the centres that because of social stigma.  There had been  no admission for the last more than three months and the government is spending Rs.1.5 lac per month on the salaries of the staff posted and other amenities required at the centre.
