Ferozepur, October 8,2015 : The protest through ‘Rail Roko’ by the farmers in Punjab was extended by another two days till Saturday at the inflexible attitude of the Punjab Government. The railway commuters had to face lot of inconvenience due to farmers’ agitation.

 

In all, 61 trains got affected to due to ongoing farmer’s agitation. Out of these 61 trains, 39 were cancelled, 12 trains were diverted, one train was terminated short of its origin and nine trains were short originated. Overall 18 Express and 21 Passenger trains were cancelled today besides were diverted today.

 

As per the railway bulletin, one train Chandigarh-Ferozepur Express (Train No. 14613) was short terminated while nine trains were short originated.

 

However, in the last two day, 113 trains had been affected in Ferozepur division due to blockage of trains in Fazilka-Kotkapura section, Fazilka-Ferozepur section and Amritsar-Sahnewal section.

To maintain law and order, the police police rounded up hundreds of agitated farmers to lift the blockade on the railway tracks at Village Jhoke Tehal Singh in Ferozepur and these protesting farmers were shifted to various police stations including Mamdot, Ghallkhurd.

Avtar Singh, a union leader said that the state government led by CM Parkash Singh Badal is adopting stubborn attitude to suppress the voice of farmers.  Instead of understanding and solving the problems of farmers, the government is trying to the government is trying to shorten the agitation.

Meanwhile, Anuj Prakash, Divisional Railway Manager, Ferozepur appealed to the agitated farmers to not to block the railway traffic in the near future. In his press release, he had made it clear that strict action under the law for imprisonment upto 5 years can be imposed on account of damage to property and creating obstruction in running the trains.

The railway had to face a great financial loss due to this agitation, sources said.
