Punjab Kissan Sangharsh Committee protest ends, CM invites for talks
Ferozepur, August 23, 2018: The three days’ protest by farmers, labourers and family members to register their protest for non-implementation of various agreed demands ended today after holding two and a half hour meeting with the Deputy Commissioner on assurance to have three member Secretary Level Meeting followed by meeting with the Chief Minister.
Thousands of farmers, labourers and family members, under the banner of Kissan Sangharsh Committee Punjab – protested for the third day today in front of the Deputy Commissioner’s offices in the state which ended today by inviting for talks with the Chief Minister on September 12, after three-member Secretary Level Meeting on August 29 when threatened for ‘railway track jam’ in the state to register their protest over their number of demands.
On instructions from the government, the representatives of Kissan Mazdoor Sangharsh Committee – Satnam Singh Pannu State President, Sukhdev Singh Mand, District President, Sahib Singh Dine Ke – had two and half-hour long meeting with the Deputy Commissioner and SSP sorted out the various demands.
Pannu said the compensation to the Kachhar Bhan incident for the attack on the protesters, to six injured will be paid by August 29 besides damage of implements by sending the report to the government within 15 days.
The enquiry into the case will also be finalized by the ADC General within three weeks and on completion of the inquiry by SIT constituted under Ferozepur Range IGP, Inderjit Singh Zira will be included under Section 306, he added.
He said a committee has also been constituted under the tutelage of SDM Ferozepur for the solution to the polluted water in Mamdot canal.
Giving a reference of assurance by civil and police administration to solve the farmers problems within the target time and Secretary Level Meeting on September 12 followed by meeting with the Chief Minister on September 12, he said, the government should waive off the entire loans of the farmers as per the promises made in the election manifesto.
The other demands of the farmers include the implementation of Swaminathan report and fix the rates of their produce by adding 50 per cent profit, minimum Rs.10,000 pension to the farm labours working for more than 6 years, old age pension be increased to Rs.2,000, allotment of 5 marla plots to homeless, grant from panchayats for construction of house and one-third part of land should be given at the lowest auction, and immediate release of Rs.716 crore dues of government sugar mills with 15 per cent interest.
Present among hundreds of farmers were Sukhwant Singh Lohka, Karnail Singh Bhola, Jarnail Singh Kussu Mour, Sjrindr Singh Ghuduwala, Surjit Singh Gatta Badsha, Lakwinder Singh Basti Namdev, Angrez Singh Bootewala, Ranbir Singh Thatha, Balraj Singh Phero Ke, Dharm Singh Sidhu, Suhwant Singh Madike, Mangal Singh Gudar Dhandi, Narinder Pal Singh Jatala and Gurdial Singh Tibbi Kalan and Bibi Manjinder Kaur Lohka who addressed the protesters.
