Punjab Green State Award for SBS Tech Campus Ferozepur
Award Ceremony at Jalandhar on August 22 on Van Mahostav Celebrations
Sidhu appealed to the residents of campus to maintain the status of award
Ferozepur, August 20, 2016: Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus, Ferozepur has been nominated for state award along with a Cash of Rs.one lacs among all the state level Educational Institutions and Universities under Punjab Green Campaign launched by Punjab Government.
The Shaheed Bhagat Singh State Technical Campus Ferozepur has been chosen for award as one of the best green Campus, by a team of experts nominated by the Punjab Government from Forest Research Institute, Dehradun. They have lauded efforts done by the campus administration for maintaining dense green cover and landscape.
The award will be given by Punjab Forest Minister during State Level ” Van Mahotsav” function being organised at Jalandhar on 22nd August.
SBSSTC is known for its lush green campus spread over 100 acres, and contribution to environment besides offering quality technical education.
The campus has beautiful landscapes, with about 7000 trees of Ashoka, pipal, amaltas, Arjuna, guava, pficus,gulmohar, bougenvalia, bottle brush, jamun, sukhchain, eucalyptus,Sheehan,and bohar etc..The trees are meticulously taken care of, and the survival rate is more than 90%. The irrigation is done by underground network of pipes and sprinkling system,installed to save water.
Campus Director Dr. T.S. Sidhu is a keen environmentalist, and takes deep interest in upkeep and and maintenance of the campus.
Sidhu said, campus is home to wide variety of flora and fauna, besides attracting migratory birds year after year in winter season and congratulated all residents and administration of Ferozepur, for the award.
Sidhu, however, appealed to all the residents of the campus including staff and students to maintain the status and honour of award, to continue to give a pollution free environment in the campus.
Added here, under the Punjab Green Campaign, three categories were formed for the award – Individual, Educational and Panchayats. In individual category, the award has been announced for Sheetal Parkash, of Raikot in Ludhiana District with cash prize of Rs.50.000, second award under educational institutions, SBS Tech. Campus has been nominated with cash prize of Rs.one lac and in third category of Panchayats, Gram Panchayat, Village Bangi Ruldu Kalan in Bathinda district has been selected with a cash prize of Rs.one lac.
