Ferozepur, March, 1, 2016 : Today, Punjab’s  famous Eco-activist, Baba Balbir Singh Seechewal, also known as Sant Seechewal today slammed the state government for adopting neglected attitude towards the cleanliness of Sutlej.

Baba Seechewal, who is famous for resurrection of Kali Bein rivulet and his efforts to save “Budha Nala” in Ludhiana, said that the state government should come up with some solution to eliminate pollution from Sutlej. “Thousands of families are affected due to polluted water of Sutlej. The state government should take the cleaning of Sutlej as a challenge. He also said that the people should also be aware regarding the rising level of pollution.

Seechewal was here to attend a seminar on Environment Awareness at local SBS College of Engineering and Technology. The seminar was organized by Punjab Eco-Friendly Association

It is pertinent to mention here that several villages in this border area including Tendiwala, Chandiwala, Khunder Gatti, Kamale Wala, Chhinasingh wala Jhugge and several others are affected due to rising pollution in Sutlej. Not their crops are affected due to polluted water, they are bereft of potable water also.

Meanwhile, Umendra Dutt, President of Kheti Virasat Mission (KMC), a NGO, which is working for the promotion of organic farming, said that now it is the time where we will have to open our eyes. “The  farmers in the recent past have been lured by the profit. The farmers  are trying to become businessman which is the root cause of poisonous food. They are destroying the fertile soils and turning them into “Poison hazards”. If we want to save our generations, we will have to opt for the organic farming otherwise the results will be devastating”, said Umendra Dutt.
