PSDWS to start movement against increasing violence on dalits
Ferozepur June 10, 2017 : Despite robust laws, violence against most oppressed people continues to rise and to get justice to the dalits, the Punjab Dalit Welfare Sabha will start a state-wide movement against the increasing atrocities on dalits, said Ashok Mohindera, Convener, Dalit Human Rights Punjab and Insaf Dilao Action Committee addressing the media persons at Press Club, Ferozepur today.
Mohindra highlighted the number of cases of atrocities on dalits in the state like beating, forcibly taking possession of lands, rape, killing threats etc. In specific, he mentioned the cases of Kabar Wachha, Dule Wala, Hittar and Chak Saido Ke. He said that even in one case the case has also been registered at Mamdot on June 19, 2016 but no arrest has been made so far.
He pointed out that atrocities on dalits are increasing day by day and in case no check is put on this, they will be denied justice besides stagnating the development of this community.
In most of the cases the SC/ST Act is not promulgated denying justice to such class.
One Jaswinder Kaur of village Kabar Wachha victim was present in the press conference to tell the tale of act of violence on her for demolition of her house where they are living for the last so many years by the alleged accused Bhutto.
Jaswinder Kaur said despite complaining at various levels since February, no action has been taken so far.
Mahindra demanded from the government to strengthen the Vigilance Monitoring Committee at the Deputy Commissioner’s level to look into each case on merits about the atrocities on dalits.
Bagga Singh, President Dalit Sabha said, a deputation will shortly meet the Punjab government in this regard before starting the state-wide movement to register their protest and urge the government to take immediate action against the alleged accused as when any case is reported to the police or district administration.
