Procedural wrangles delayed Rail Under Bridge at Basti Tankanwali in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, September 23: Notwithstanding with the final nod from the railways and handing over the cost amount of Rail Under Bridge (RUB) of Rs.10 crore in two installments, the work on the project, which connects Ferozepur City and Cantonment areas is still to see the light of the day due to procedural wrangles.
Thousands of residents had heaved a sigh of relief who had to wait for a long time at the railway crossing even for half an hour as the crossing road comes under the shunting range, but due to certain formalities yet to be completed at the railway headquarter level, the project is stuck up.
However, Anuj Parkash, DRM, Ferozepur Railway Division, refuted all assumptions and said that the project will be initiated soon. All formalities at our level stands completed and sent to headquarters for final approval.
I don’t think there will be any problem with the funds now and as soon as the approval regarding the drawings will be received, the construction work will be started”, added DRM.
Added here, that there are only two ways to connect the City and Cantt. One is ROB of British time and reconstructed now, and the other is via Basti Tankan Wali through the railway crossing which is closed most of the time as this crossing comes under the crossing and shunting of all the trains towards on Ferozepur-Ludhiana, Ferozepur-Bhatinda and Ferozepur-Jalanadhar tracks.
Earlier, the State BJP Chief Kamal Sharma had provided a cheque of Rs 7 crores to the railway officials. Since the estimated cost of this project was Rs. 10 Crore, the remaining Rs.3 crores were provided by the Municipal Committee of Ferozepur City.
For the last seven decades since Independence, the residents of this border town had been waiting for the construction of RUB at this place, said Baldev Raj older timer of the city.
Another sources said, the railways have demanded another amount of Rs.21 due to increase in the cost estimate but none of the official of district administration and railways confirmed about this.
