Police special drive to nab POs evading arrest bears fruit, one on the run caught in Ferozepur
Ferozepur, March 11, 2023: The Ferozepur police special drive to nab POs/absconders evading arrest in NDPS cases bears fruit when it claimed to have arrested one proclaimed offender (PO) who was facing the charges under NDPS Act and also a case has been registered against him but was on the run despite summoning by the court and evading arrest.
Divulging with details, Randhir Kumar, SP(D) said, Major Singh son of Mukhtiar Singh, of village Daulatpura under Arit Ke police station was booked under NDPS Act at Sadar police station, Ferozepur under FIR number 112 on 18.5.2017. He had been managing to evade arrest before his luck finally ran out on March 10.
Major Singh, who was wanted in a case of NDPS Act for recovery of heroin (3.5 gm wrapped in a plastic envelope) from his possession when intercepted on being a suspicious nature in possession of drugs, had been dodging the police, has been nabbed from Daultpura, he added.
Earlier, the accused was summoned through proclamation under Section 82 Cr PC on July 27, 2022 and the copy of summon was posted at the main door of the house and cone copy at the conspicuous place of village. He failed to appear within 30 days of the proclamation and even none on behalf of the accused.
Now a fresh chargesheet will be filed against Major Singh in a local court shortly.
SP said, the Punjab Police besides tightening the noose around the drug smugglers/suppliers has also been doing all the possible efforts to keep youth away from drugs and helping to rehabilitate those who have already fallen prey to this menace. He said that we are also coordinating with the local NGOs and Youth Clubs to work against drugs in their respective districts to sensitize the youth about the harmful and ill-effects of drugs.
