PCEAC gives ultimatum to government, threatens to sit on fast-unto-death from February 16

Chandigarh, February 13, 2017 : To register their protest for non-regularisation of services of contract employees, despite passing in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha, 56 days back on December 19, the Punjab Contract Employees Action Committee has started hunger strike from today in Section 17, Chandigarh and threatened to convert this hunger strike into fast-unto-death if due demands are not implemented up to February 15.

Speaking to the media person, the employees leaders Sajjan Singh, Ashish Julaha, Jagdish Chahal, Amritpal Singh, Ravinder Singh said, the bureaucrats are using the delaying tactics in spite of the fact that the law was passed in the Cabinet for regularisation of services of  27,000 employees working on adhoc/contract basis besides executing action on various other demands like reinstatement of Suvidha Centre employees, withdrawing of false cases against the employees and releasing of interim relief.

The Election Commission has also relaxed its conditions for regularisation of services even after the announcement of model code of conduct.  The ball was again moved in the court of Chief Secretary Punjab by issuing another letter by the Election Commission by repeating the whole issue of regularisation of adhoc/contract employees.

Rajinder Singh Press Secretary, PSCEAC said, the employees have been compelled to proceed on hunger strike and fast-unto-death because of rigid attitude of the government.

Giving a threatening call to the government, the Committee leaders said, in case no action is taken by the government on the demands of contract employees by February 15, one of its employee – Sajjan Singh – will start fast-unto-death, putting whole responsibility on the government for any consequences.

They further said that in this protest, various employees welfare organisations in the state have extended support to the Punjab Contract Employees Action Committee.
