On fourth consecutive day, recovery of mobiles from jail inmates continues
Ferozepur, April 3, 2022: The recovery of mobiles from the jail inmates continued for the fourth consecutive day and despite vigil and smuggling in banned items has put a question mark on the authorities.
While one mobile without battery and SIM card was recovered during the search operation from Kharak Singh, under trial prisoner in barrack number 3, by Hari Singh, Assistant Superintendent.
As per information, there has been no follow-up on the recovery of mobiles about the purpose of its usages as taking the custody of prisoners for investigation is a big problem. The recovery of banned items from jail inmates, smuggled in, through various operandi, during meeting call, or thrown from outside the jail by unidentified persons over the high wall, has put a question mark on the security arrangements. The purpose of keeping the prisoners away from the outside world on the sentence by the court is also lost.
Earlier during the last three days, two mobiles on March 31, one mobile on April 1 and one mobile, one data cable, and one charge on April 2. There has also been an incident of throwing packets from high rising walls of jails from outside. Due to the closeness of roads and buildings, it is easy to throw items like mobile phones and drugs inside the jail. Even some time back, the jail official was caught carrying the banned items for some inmates on reference from his relatives.
However, further investigations are underway with the concerned IOs, to ascertain as to how the contraband goods were sneaked into the jail campus and also to establish any nexus between the prison staff and the under trial prisoners besides a special focus on purpose of its usage.
