New policy disallowing vends close to highways finds no takers

No applicant turned up at liquor vends auction

Re-auction to be done before March 31

Only one applicant in Fazilka and two in Abohar turned up

Ferozepur, March 29, 2017: ( Harish Monga ) :  The new excise policy disallowing liquor vends within distance of 500 metres from the highways as per court order, has kept the liquor contractors away from the auction that took place here on Wednesday.

No contractor come forward for auction in Ferozepur and re-auction will be done before March 31.There was only one contractor for Fazilka and two for Abohar.

Auction Observer HPS Ghotra,said the previous year has not been very prosper for the contractors. Besides Demonetization, the number of contractors was bound to drop due to policy shift against location of vends on the highways.

Sources said the contractors feel that liquor vends on highways sell more liquor in comparison to the ones in less important commercial areas and elsewhere.

This fiscal the department has constituted six zones. The zones have been constituted in such a way that each zone has a mix of rural and urban areas under its control.
