Nirmal Singh teacher covered 3878 km on Cycle from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari, gets warm welcome at Ferozepur

Ferozepur February 1, 2019: Nirmal Singh, working as a teacher at Government Primary School, Basti Jaimal Wala, was given a warm welcome after completing 3978 km cycle tour in 29 days from Kashmir to Kanya Kumari and Sri Lanka.

Speaking to media persons, Nirmal Singh said, my cycle expedition is like fulfilling of a dream which still looks a dream to me.

I along with three friends,  have completed this tour in 29 days, after covering 9 states – Jammu and Kashmir, Punjab, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Maharashtra, Goa, Karnataka, Kerala and Tamil Nadu and 3 Union Territories – Daman and Dev, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Pondicherry, he said.  During this period, we have experienced a different culture of people, environment and food especially passing through high mountains of Himalayas, plain and desert areas of Punjab and Rajasthan, ups and downs of Western Ghats, Arabian ocean breezes, golden sand of beaches, Hind Mahasagar, he added.

I tried to fulfil my ambition to enjoy the natural beauty and diversity with a vision to carry out some responsibility towards the environment, he said.

Sharing more about his experience, he said, We did not use the bottled water throughout my journey and avoid junk packed food rather enjoyed the food from the small dhabas (shops) on the roadside.  We also tried to learn the common useable words of other languages of the states but could not pick up so easily.  We also got a chance to visit Sri Lanka and cycled for about 536 km by visiting the historical places at Colombo, Kandi, Dambulla Sigiriya and Anuradhapura.

Nirmal Singh thanked all those who have helped in completing this project especially the support of the family members and friends.

Present among those at the station to welcome Nirmal Singh, were Gurjit Singh Sodhi, Sarabjit Singh Bhawra, Harjit Singh Sidhu, Talwinder Singh, Jaspreet Puri, Sandeep Choudhary, Harman Preet Singh Mutti, Surinder Singh, Surinder Gill, Kulwant Singh Sandhu, Chamkaur Singh.
