Mobiles seized from jail barracks put question mark on security chinks
Ferozepur, April 10, 2020: Despite tight security arrangements in and outside of the jail, the entry of mobiles could not be checked, which has put a question mark on the protection of the inmates, working and security of jail authorities once again, with the recent recovery of two mobiles from the barracks.
Moreover, there is not too much rush of ‘mulaqats‘ at jail premises, in the event of coronavirus curfew but this is the second recovery during this week. In the past apart from mobiles, drugs and bidis had also been recovered.
The laxity on the part of jail officials or connivance cannot be ruled out. With the smuggling in of the mobiles but frequent recovery of mobiles from the jail from the identified prisoners or lying in the barracks or campus of the jail, is a big security threat as in the past no follow up of the use of the same has so far been revealed by the jail officials. In such circumstances, there is a need to install the mobile jammers or intensify the security arrangements to avoid the misuse of smuggled in mobiles and its use by the inmates.
Many gangsters who are locked in the jail, arrested after stiff planning, easily run heir network from the jail premises through their phones, in the normal course as sitting outside the jail.
On the complaint of Assistant Superintendent, Sukhwant Singh a case has been registered against the unidentified person under Section 52-A of Prisons Act.
As per the details, during the search operation of barracks number 2 and 3, two mobiles – touch screen with SIM Card of Oppo brand and one Samsung Keypad without SIM cards were recovered. Dalip Kumar, SI has been appointed as IO for further investigation.
