Mayank Foundation joins hands with nature lovers to implant 10,000 ‘Seed Bombs’
Ferozepur, August 22, 2018: Environmentalists in the city have resorted to Seed Bombs, aiming to increase green cover and reviving native species of trees and plants in the long run. When trees have become endangered commodities, Mayank Foundation has taken the initiative with around hundred nature-loving citizens of all ages to greening the surroundings of the city with an explosive idea of planting trees by embedding organic seed balls – known as ‘Seed Bombs’ – in the undeveloped grounds which is also gaining popularity in many India cities.
Speaking to babushahi.com Deepak Sharma – who has established Mayank Foundation in memory of his son and Shalinder Kumar Lohoria, a social worker said Seed Bombs/Balls are now being seen as a solution to fast depleting green cover and the month of August is the right time for dispersing seed balls.
These ‘Seed Bombs’ have been prepared by mixing the soil, compost and hydrogen peroxide and tree seeds are kept in the balls. After drying it for one day, these Seed Bombs are ready to be implanted anywhere. The moment it gets the rainwater, it grows into plants.
Rakesh Kumar and Rahul – nature lover – said these Seed Bombs can grow within a period of two months of embedding and the existing compost in the ball helps in its growth up to one month.
Deepak Sharma, Chairman, Mayank Foundation informed that in a single day, the two teams have entrenched around 500 Seed Bombs and we have the target of spreading 10,000 Seed Bombs at the barren and desert areas.
He also welcomed any nature loving person to associate with the Foundation to make the surrounding of Ferozepur beautiful and to give a pollution-free environment for the generations to come.
