Zira, May 22, 2024:  Having no formal closure order of the Malbros Liquor Factory near Zira in Ferozepur district despite orders by the Chief Minister Punjab, the issue is still undecided in the court of law and Green Tribunal at Delhi. The National Green Tribunal has fixed July 2 as the next date of hearing and meanwhile demanded a Water Treatment Plant and Hospital in the village Mansoorwala Kalan.

Roman  Brar Mahianwala Kalan said, on the day of hearing at National Green Tribunal at Delhi in the case of Malbros Liquor Factory said, I along with Jaskirat Singh, Dr.Amandeep Singh Bains, Kuldip Singh Khaira, senior advocate of Sanjha MorchaColin Gonsalves, Kanwalpreet Kaur and Deep from PAC Matewada team were present.   He said, during the proceedings, the Zira Liquor Factory put forth its claim but asking for the next date, Advocate General Gurminder Singh who appeared through the video conference and A.G. did not put up any of their points.

Brar said, it is one of the major issues of Punjab regarding its land, water and air pollution but unfortunately the government has not adopted any policy to present its case which is going in the court of CJM Ferozepur.

Expressing his concern, he said, on the orders of the High Court, the government has deposited Rs.20 crore in the court on the claim of loss by the factory which could not be taken back because of not presenting its point of claim.   He however, expressed hope from the government on the next date of hearing.

The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has already issued directions to the Punjab government to ensure safe drinking water for the villagers. The Sanjha Morcha Zira have now demanded immediate installation of a Water Treatment Plant in the village near the factory, keeping in view the polluted water of the area so that people and animals in the area could get clean water besides a provision of canal water for irrigation of land.   They also demanded for setting up a modern hospital to save the people from the chronic diseases from the pollution of the factory.

Brar said, the next hearing at National Green Tribunal has been fixed as July 2 when we expect that the Punjab government will properly put up its claim over the working of Marlboros Liquor Factory.
