Lahore High Court fixed March 5 in renaming case of Shadman Chowk as Bhagat Singh Chowk

Ferozepur, February 22, 2018: The Lahore High Court fixed the March 5 the next date on the petition filed by Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Fazilka in Lahore High Court seeking the naming of Shadman Chowk in Lahore after the martyr and installation of his statue there with an order to club another case on the similar issue.

The case was filed yesterday by the Shaheed Bhagat Singh Memorial Foundation, Pakistan, through its chairman Imtiaz Rashid Qureshi. The court had accepted the petition for hearing under urgent matters.

Speaking to this correspondent over mobile from Pakistan Justice Shahid Jameel Khan of the Lahore High Court heard the case and on behalf of the foundation, Abdul Rasheed Qureshi, advocate, Supreme Court, assisted by Mehboob Hasan Chaudhry and Shahbaz Rashid Qureshi, advocates, High Court, pleaded the case.

Qureshi said that Justice Khan ordered to club the similar case as it would be more convenient to hear both the cases together and fixed the next date of haring as March 5 along with the previous cases.

 

Added here that the Shadman Chowk was built over the place where Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged on March 23, 1931, in Lahore Jail.

Chairman Qureshi said, Shaheed Bhagat Singh was a great revolutionary of the subcontinent and he is much of Pakistan as he is India.  We have also requested the Pakistan government for Pakistan’s highest gallantry award – Nishan-a-Haider for Shaheed Bhagat Singh. We are confident that Bhagat Singh will get the outstanding honour shortly.

We are confident that soon Bhagat Singh will get the due honour. He was a great revolutionary of the subcontinent and he is as much of Pakistan as he is of India. We have requested the Pakistan Government that Shaheed Bhagat Singh should be rewarded with Pakistan’s highest gallantry award, Nishan-a-Haider.”
