Kanwar Sodhi demands compensation or possession of 45 acres land from Govt as per Court orders
Ferozepur, July 27, 2021: Kanwar Naresh Sodhi, now settled at Chandigarh, who owns a part of 26,000 acres ancestral land – Guru Jaswant Singh and Tikka Atamjit Singh of villages Guruharsahai, Jand Waa and Marre Khurd – of 45 acres on which now the passages, phirnies, abadies by non-proprietors, Janj Ghar, Panchayat Ghar, Anganwari institution etc as shown in the revenue record, has demanded compensation or possession of the land as per the court orders.
Holding a press conference today, Kanwar said, the consolidation of the land in the three villages took place in the year 1960 to 1962 and a proportionate cut was levied upon the holdings and a common pool was formed. The land was a part of the common pool along with some other land as per provisions of the East Punjab Holdings (Consolidation & Prevention of Fragmentation) Act,1948 and the land was given for given for passages, phirnies, Janj Ghar etc as per the revenue record.
Despite court orders, neither the compensation has been given to me nor the possession of the land which is now in illegal possession of the government. The Punjab and Haryana High Court in its orders dated August 2, 2017, have dismissed the regular second appeals, said Kanwar.
He also pointed out that for the similar status of land, Rana Sodhi, Sports Minister has taken double compensation and the PWD has filed a civil suit for the recovery of land compensation taken twice. Now, the revised compensation of Rs.80 cr is being demanded.
On the other hand, Rana Sodhi had said in the media that I have every right to claim genuine compensation for my ancestral property. I have won cases right up to the SC and have full faith in the legal system. The miscellaneous application (MA) filed by the department has been dismissed and a review application has been filed by them and the matter is sub judice.
Accusing the government for giving compensation of Rana Sodhi twice for the same status, who is from his close relations, Kanwar said, the jamabandi of the land is in his name and it has been confirmed in the RTI by the Deputy Commissioner. Since the physical possession, which is with the government by virtue of illegal construction of roads etc. on the said land is not possible as per court orders; Kanwar demanded the compensation of 45 acres of ancestral land in his name.
