Ferozepur, July 11,2022 : Kalu Wala – a village with 150 votes with total 400 populations – situated across the Satluj river touching the Indo-Pak border,  line is still deprived of basic amenities and cut off from the worldly affairs, when India is celebrating 75 years of independence. Every year promises are made for construction of bridge over the river or providing a ‘beda’ – a big boat.

In the absence of any bridge over the river since the independence of India, in the absence of permanent bridge over the river, the only means of transport to reach village Kalu Waa, is ‘wooden beda’ – raft – which too is maintained and operated by the villagers and compelled to live in the old traditional rituals.

The village is around 18.5 KMs from Ferozepur  and to reach the village around 1.5 KMs across the Satluj river, one has to board the boat which is used to ferry the residents daily in a boat arranged by the villagers himself.

No doubt, India looks to be freedom since 1947 but residents of our village are still living under miserable conditions having no basic amenities of education, health and transport arrangements. The leaders do come to the village asking for votes at the time of elections with tall promises of development but the same are yet to be fulfilled even today.

Not only this, in case of any emergency of medical treatment, the family members wait for the morning to take the patient to hospital by crossing the Satluj river.  In the recent incident of snake bite, the youth could not be transported to the city for medical treatment and reported to have died.

It is pertinent to mention that every year, a temporary bridge – on vacuum vessels – is erected by the BSF, which is dismantled when there is too much flow of water and the village has to face lot of inconvenience in those days.

The villagers appealed to the Centre and State governments construct a bridge in this area so that the residents of  Kaluwada too could become a part of ‘Shining India’.
