India Post celebrates National Postal Week 9-15 October

Still ‘Emails’ cannot end the romance of writing ‘letters’ : Old Timer

NATIONAL POSTAL WEEK CELEBRATIONS IN FZR

Ferozepur, October 9, 2015: India Post started National Postal Week celebrations from today to create awareness about the various postal services available for the people of India and its role in business with the start of online system like banks and ATMs.

The National Postal Week inauguration, in a small and impressive function was held in the office of Superintendent of Post Offices. Dheeraj Mathur, Asstt. Supdt. Post Office highlighted the establishment of the Universal Postal Union (UPU) in 1874 in the Swiss capital Berne.

He said, the celebrations, which will conclude on October 15 are also aimed at highlighting the role of India Post and activities among the public through the media at national level.

It was declared as World Post Day by the UPU Congress held in Tokyo in 1969 and since then, it is celebrated all over the world to highlight the importance of the postal services. In many countries, on this day, philatelic exhibitions are organized and new stamps and date cancellation marks are issued, he added.

Speaking on this occasion, Kulwant Singh, Supdt. Post Offices said, the India Post is shortly introducing Core Banking Services (CBS) at all its branches apart from Automatic Telling Machines (ATMs) for the saving account holders.

In reply to media persons, Kulwant Singh said, in Ferozepur old district, the core banking service has already started at Jalalabad and shortly it will started at Fazilka, Dharamkot, Abohar and Zira.

During the interaction with the staff and media persons, some of the present staff members and media persons shared their old experiences of charm of writing letters waiting the visit of Postman at their doorsteps. Despite our entering in the high tech era, the emails cannot end the romance of letters, said an old timer.

Pawan Bansal, Dakpal, Ferozepur and other staff members were also present on this occasion.
