Golden Arrow Division paid homage to martyrs of 1965 Indo-Pak War at “Prerna Sthal”
Ferozepur, September 22, 2015: In a solemn ceremony, wreath-laying was conducted at ‘Prerna Sthal’, Hussainiwala to commemorate Golden Jubilee celebrations of 1965 Indo-Pak war.
The saga of Golden Arrow Division is resplendent with courage, valour and bravery. The Division had played a major role in turning the tide against the enemy in 1965 Indo-Pak War in areas of Hussainiwala, Khem Karan and Asal Uttar. The gallant soldiers of Golden Arrow Division fought the battles at these places with extreme vigour and patriotism.
The conflict witnessed the largest tank versus tank battles in the history after World War-II at Khem Karan during the Battle of Asal uttar. Company Quarter Master Havildar (CQMH) Abdul Hamid of 4 GRENADIERS displayed exemplary courage and valour and destroyed many Pakistani patton Tanks and was awarded Param Vir Chakra posthumously for his splendid bravery. In the Battle of Asal Uttar more than 100 Pakistani tanks were destroyed or captured by Indian forces.
In the Battle of Barki, the forces marched towards Lahore and captured major portions of the Pakistani territory up to lchhogil canal including village Barki Hussainiwala was defended by the gallant brave hearts of the Division with resounding determination.
Maj Gen Vijay Pingale, GOC Golden Arrow Division along with senior Army, Police, BSF officers and prominent citizens of Ferozepur to include Dr Kamal Baghi, Anirudh Gupta and Hansraj Aggarwal paid homage to the Martyrs who made supreme sacrifice in various wars fought on Western Front.
A large No of serving soldiers, veterans and civilians were also present during the event.
